I've observed Lent off and on in the past but this year I feel more resistant to it when I'm normally drawn. It has largely to do with having a baby again which limits the time for reflection and quiet I normally enjoy. I'm not sure how to incorporate Lent in this life season.
Yes I have had those seasons as well. I wonder if you could incorporate something like shifting the music you listen to as a way to set a quieter space for you in this season of heavy caretaking? The years where I have felt disconnected or distant from Lent, the music I play has been a huge help to me. The beauty of remembering the freedom we have is that noen of this has to look a certain way, I pray you find peace in that.
I've never actually observed lent but this year, I feel strongly pulled to it. I'm looking forward to the fast and the time of response and reflection.
Thank you so much for this writing on Lent. Like you, I was brought up in Catholicism. Ever since my conversion to Christ, when observing the rituals of lent, it gives me the heebie-jeebies. How depressing to see so many who sincerely believe these actions are earning them time off their Purgatory sentence.
You have helped me see that there is a Christian motive for Lenten fasting.
Thank you.
I plan to read your article more times to let it sink in. I wrote several things in my journal.
You have helped me put my feet on a new road. There is much here to think and ask God about.

I love that Tabitha! Have you considered what has you feeling so drawn to it this year? It changes for me each year.
