Peace
setting my paper boat into the quiet waters
Yesterday, Peace in the Dark entered the world. If we were at the lake I would walk down to the beach and send a paper boat out into the still water or light a paper lantern and send it flying. We would watch the light as it floated away. We would exhale. Instead I get to offer you this. May there be that same exhale as you open the pages and find a glimmer of light.
Jesus told his Disciples, “What I tell you in the dark, speak in the light.” Every word of Peace in the Dark was encountered in the dark, whispers lived and stored up and poured out. May you find comfort and peace among them as they are brought into the light. May you realize, as I have, that the light is with you always, that there is comfort found in every Holy Saturday you face. May there be peace.
Launch is such an aggressive sounding word for the process of releasing Peace in the Dark into the world. I have taken a much softer approach this time. Just like the paper boat, it’s journey is just beginning. In the book world the launch is usually the finish line. Perhaps that is the great disconnect we all feel as we watch our work launch yet treat it like the finale. Launch as a starting point is my favorite way I have found to do this crazy book thing and so that is how I have orientated myself this time.
Our Lent Companion and private Reading Circle start on Feb 14th (Ash Wednesday) so that gives us plenty of time to invite a few friends into the dark with us. Chances are, they are already in the dark waiting, and would love the companionship. More and more I grow convinced that we are meant to be in-between far more than we are ever meant to be launching or finishing. This brings me comfort.
I am grateful for each one of you who has said yes to the invitation into the dark with me. May there be peace for us all.
